They won the Academy Award for best original song for their song "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp". When Queen Latifah announced their name as the winners of the Oscar for best original song, I cried. Well, I'm real sensitive, I cry real easy anyway. But I am very proud of them for winning that award. I will admit, I was also very surprised, but proud of them nonetheless. Congratulations!!!
Oh yeah, in case you are wondering why Crunchy Black isn't holding an Oscar in the press room picture, only those credited as writers on the song receive Oscars. Jordan Houston (Juicy J), Cedric Coleman (Frayser Boy) and Paul Beauregard (DJ Paul) received Oscars.

Shame, Shame, Shame. I am glad my black people have an opportunity to display their talent. I am glad that they tried to give the performance some artistic value. But why in the hell did they agree to do this. This was such a disappointment. Taraji sounded like a Ashanti knock-off so you know that's bad! The speech was a mess. It was just overall embarassing.

well, the whities sure do like to see us coon, don't they? even when we receive recognition, we still end up looking the fool. what a shame.

man, i was waiting for brad and angelina to show up. seeing aniston's reaction would have been worth watching the red carpet arrivals. otherwise, same old boring oscars. this year's attempt to "spice it up" with three-6-mafia was a veiled attempt to embarass black people. too bad we took the bait.

"Wait I got a snow bunny, and a black girl too
You pay the right price and they'll both do you
That's the way the game goes, gotta keep it strictly pimpin
Gotta have my hustle tight, makin change off these women, yeah"
This CRAP wins an Oscar? Need I say more?

If crazy ass Eminem can have an Oscar, why not Three 6 Mafia? Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for the content of the song but it fits the movie. I think they won because the scene where the song is performed in the movie is a pivotal scene in the movie.
Those TN boys have been on the grind for a minute.
Jay Z hasn't had a song in a movie that's been nominated so that's sort of an irrelevant argument to make.

They could have used a song from the Crash Soundtrak! Didn't Luda do something on there :) That was a mess, but congratulations.

I for one loved the movie hustle and flow, and the song by 3-6 was very powerful to me, it fit the movie perfectly. I feel that no matter what the content of the song is, 3 6 mafia did A WONDERFUL job with the song and as a hip hop fan i am proudof them and congratulate them on their win. This win was as important to me as the win for the Rots when they won a Grammy. Go head 3-6!!!!!

Well--I'm glad to see that some of y'all aren't sell outs and are actually glad to see a rap group finally get some recognition instead of worrying about how it makes you look to whitey.

Such negativity and hate. I'm embarrassed to hear MY people say all of these negative things about people of our own race, yet complain about racism and whatnot. Just ridiculous!

first of all the movie was about a pimp i'm glad they won. no they are not the most classy hip-hop group but the song fit the movie to a tee. and to me i dont see what the diffrence is between them being nominated and terrance howard being nominated. he played the pimp. at least we know that our music can be nominated and it can win. They also looked nice on the red carpet they changed for the performance

The difference is the ignorance ended with the movie. He was acting. They are dumbasses for real and that speech proved it factual.

well there dumbasses with oscar's so somebody voted for them. and there caracter wasnt up for an oscar there song was. and dont start with the academy because the actors and film producers and directors make up the academy.

You are proof that we need help. The word is spelled c-h-a-r-a-c-t-e-r. Get hooked on phonics before you start making points.

3-6 Mafia is further indication that we as blacks have internalized the most self-debasing, ignorant elements of our community and publicly declared them as our representatives. Why are we so enthralled by the most gutter, illiterate, criminal behavior and speech? We don't we have the same fascination and warmth toward people in our community who are educated, politically engaged, and thought-provoking. It was heartbreaking to see black people represented to the world like that last night as a bunch of buffoons, pimps, whores, hustlers, and illiterates. NO OTHER Community but ours embraces such negative stereotypes about their own community as we do. We love the very toxic images that have held us down for centuries. We are a sick community heading toward genocide.
