Amped for Africa...

On March 2nd a lot of celebrities came out for Vanity Fair's "Amped for Africa" event. The event is an "invitation-only event hosted by Charlize to celebrate the Charlize Theron African Outreach Project benefiting Oprah's Angel Network". This project is set to benefit the most vulnerable children and their families in rural South Africa. Celebrities in attendance included Mary J Blige, Molly Simms, Sanaa Lathan, Ludacris, Heidi Klum, Garcelle Beauvais, and others. Check out the pictures below...

Damn straight to "skeptical" because I was just thinking the same thing. I have more respect for celebrities who are consistent with their work...don't just donate when there is publicity. To me, their lifestyles, even down to the clothing and cars that they have, reflects what they think of others. All that money and it is spent on nonsense when we have so much going on in the world. I understand that people get excited with new money and they can spend however they want to spend, but again, be consistent. Don't spend money to fit in with this Hollywood lifestyle and act like you care when a tragedy (such as Katrina) occurs. People are starving everyday, and the media doesn't always cover that. Even though I can't understand as to why she has nine houses, I have such respect for Oprah because she cosistently keeps up with world issues. She gave light to Sudan when not many others would. I wish more people would have that balance as she does for the most part.

People work hard for their money and should be free to do whatever they choose. How many of you donate to bell ringers or feed the children out of your pay check. Every little bit helps. Don't be so quick to judge. Whatever and whenever you give is better than not giving at all.

As I already mentioned in my above post, "they can spend however they want to spend." I was getting on the fact that often celebrities do charity work to benefit themselves and although in the end it works out on both ends because people are still being helped, I find it frustrating that the motives aren't always genuine. I admire people who are genuine, consistent, and have that balance, as I stated with Oprah. I guess my point wasn't made clearly enough. Although I shouldn't have to explain myself because I know that I am not a hypocrite, I will say that I do not donate as often as I would like to simply because of the fact that I am broke. HOWEVER, I am always volunteering and working in my community, which is already off the record, but since you asked...

Well do it quietly. No matter how or why they are giving they should not be judged for that. People cant do anything right. You dont help your wrong and if you do you have an alterior motive. Just cant win can you!

I'll keep this short and I won't make an attempt to insult you as you did with me because I think that's a little silly and irrelevant. I exercised my right to express my opinion because of the fact that I like to think on a deeper level and I won't always except what is right in front of me, no matter how fancy the event is. I like looking at the morality of a situation, call it what you want. As long as we agree to disagree, then that's cool. But are you serious? Do it quietly? Come up with something of substance.

The problem with people like you is that your broke and always have something to say. I don't think that the children that are getting food and medical care really give a damn where there hearts are. You are probably one of the ones that are in support of 3-6 performing it's hard out her for a pimp but are quick to criticize something positive. Just be happy that they are doing something. Do you think they are going to lose their fan base because they are not at a charity event? Get a life. If they want a photo opt, they can get that a some party or outside of a damn club. You step up! Is that enough substance for you?

Hmmm..."Don't judge"? "People like me"? As I stated before...agree to disagree. That's fine. But now you've attacked me personally, which has nothing to do with the original conversation and it shows that you can't seem to carry on a decent discussion without insult. So I will be the bigger person and end it.
