Jay-Z and Nas: It's Official

Cam'ron who??? Since Cam released his diss track about Jay-Z, President Carter has been going on with business as usual. According to MTV, Nas has signed with Jay-Z.
According to The New York Times, the long-rumored deal bringing Nas to the Jay-Z lead Def Jam Recordings label has been completed, turning the former foes into business partners. Though Sony and Def Jam representatives would not comment on the story, the Times quoted unnamed sources describing a scheme that would have Nas' longtime label, Sony Music, and Def Jam split the profits, or any losses, from Nas' next two albums.

The Times reports that Jay-Z, president of Def Jam, has agreed to have his label pay the cost of producing and marketing the albums and then divide the profits with Sony after expenses are recovered. The labels will work together to plan and execute the marketing campaigns for the records. The deal pays Nas around $3 million, including a recording budget, for each of the two albums, and has a clause providing for two additional albums for Def Jam.

Why focus on a childish beef when you can make "grown-man" decisions that will go down in hip-hop history???

It's nice to see that crap squashed in the interest of making money--fight later, make money NOW...

Doug...

You are right that hip-hop has pretty much always had "beef" records but that's not the ONLY thing rappers talk about--So to say that someone should totally stop listening to hip-hop if they don't want to hear "beef" records is kinda crazy...

Doug...

Point taken and thanks for the clarification. I do agree with you for the most part and I CERTAINLY agree that 50's shit is garbage...

When I called the beef childish, I was talking about Cam'ron's beef with Jay-Z. I think Jay-Z and Nas' situation was very much different than the situation with Cam and Jay-Z. Jay-Z and Nas' "beef" was cool with me, hip-hop needed it. But then again, I just don't like Cam'ron so my opinion is biased.
