Mos Def Said...

I love Mos Def, something about him is so fly, sexy even. Now with that said, on with the quotes. My man makes some valid points. He even makes me want to re-evaluate some of my own thoughts...- "Our priorities is gettin' fucked. Lil Jon-I love his music. But why are the East Side Boyz names Big Sam and Lil Bo? What the fuck? What's next, Kunta and Kinte? The South should know better. This is the same country that ran up in Fred Hampton's crib and shot him in bed with his pregnant wife. You think the rules changed cause niggas got No. 1 records? What are we supposed to tell our kids? After Malcolm, Martin and Dubois we got Sam-Bo? I'm supposed to be down with that 'cause it makes me dance?"

-"Jimmy Iovine, Lyor Cohen, Doug Morris...all of these dudes were not prepared in their schooling or in any of their social upbringing for a world where they have to deal face to face with, not only people who are outside of their class, but people who in their minds could very well be their servants. Now you gotta deal with somebody you've been trained to deal with as your underling as your partner. It's a bitter fuckin pill to swallow cause now you need this person. Jimmy Iovine is not your buddy. Lyor is NOT happy about Jay Z being president of DJ. I dont give a fuck what he say. If the dude could go from rhyming to being a CEO in 10 years or less, what is he going to be in 15 or 20? He might have Lyor's job at this rate"

-"Paris Hilton don't really care about ya'll niggaz, man. She can't even hear ya'll niggaz. I'm just keeping it real. This shit is entertainment to them. We're adopting their morals like we them and we never been them. We don't have the same struggle. Dudes is no more than 20 years removed from real poverty. For dudes to have this much access to money and it's not translating to people power, its inexcusable"

I am with you Dee there is some'n' about Mos Def him that makes him so attractive. I mean when you look at him, you wouldn't be like damn you fine, but when you keep looking there is jus some'n' there that makes him shin. Anywayz back to the politics, Mos does have a point and i respect him, because he does keep it real, and he speaks the truth. People need to wake up and realize that the world is not on our (African Americans) side, so we have to stick together and represent where we came from, beacuse we are all we got.

he's absolutely right. Music is so dumb now. But at the same time, Mos Def married a video Ho after only knowing her for a week. And he has about 8 kids from different women. I actually met one of his daughters and her mother. He put her through hell when he got their BABYSITTER pregnant. He needs to re evaluate his own actions as well.

I agree with a lot of what he said-definitely some valid points. But with that being said--should we tell our kids that after Malcom, Martin and Dubois we got Mos Def? A phonetic spelling for the stereotypical way a black person would say "most" and a slang term for "great or good". How is THAT supposed to be so much more uplifting? And then he goes on to say that he loves Lil Jon's music--WTF?? He's offended at what the East Side Boyz call themselves but he's not offended at their lyrics--asses, getting high, drinking, etc? Come oooon guy-like I said, I'm not debating what the man is saying--it just seems kinda hypocritical to me...

I think sometimes people get to caught up in other things that the real issue never gets discussed. Yes their have been rumours about his personal life but that is not what he was talking about....I could see if he were talking about people having children out of wedlock or not suppporting children or whatever, but that is not the case.

I think society as a whole is very materialistic and very selfish. People are willing to do whatever and sacrifice and comprimise just to make money. Some stars feel no personal responsibilty for the images they represent and promote. Unfortunately this is what the world sees of our culture sometimes. Some peple are so starstruck though, that to voice your opinion is just "hating." There is more to life than money and looking "hot."

As usual, this man is on point....With everything. I can see where Nee is coming from, but at the same time, "Mos Def" is kind of cool. It doesn't have the same connotation as "Sam-bo". I don't know. I know that nobody black should be working with Paris Hilton's born rich stupid ass. She say Nigga as much as she says no to a blow job.

paris hilton thinks y'all a buncha NIGGERS. after that shit i won't even WATCH her show. fuck that bitch. and as for mos def....yeah...he makes some valid points but he needs to learn to control his sexual urges and stop acting like the field stud trying to impregnate EVERYTHING on the plantation. now THAT'S a slave mentality. and the bitches that let him do it got work to do also. God gave you a brain so you could regulate your lifestyle and make decisions that empower you....not to NOT THINK and shoot your seed wherever the fuck it lands.

I agree with Anon 2:12. Nobody is saying he's supposed to be perfect, but if you call yourself preaching and teaching, try living your life better. What example is he setting? If hip hop is such an important topic to address, so is the fact that so many black men are spreading their seed around wrecklessly to several women. Who is he to judge? How the hell he marry a video girl a week after meeting her?? There is obviously a pattern of him jumpin' in and out of p*ssy and that is not a good example for the next generation either.

this from a man who has kids all over the place. lead by example because talk is cheap

I GUESS NEE FEELS LIKE THE DUMBAZZ THAT SHE IS

Has Mos paid his child support yet?

Yeah, didnt think so.

And he needs to stop using the N word so much- Malcolm, Huey, Fred H, DuBois-- did't go around shoutin out their ni**az. stop sitting on both sides of the fence mos.

Nee girl, that fool is trying to get a rise out of you cause you clowned his dumb ass the other day. Rise above just like you did before.

I did like Mos as far as thinking he was sexy and all but then I did found out that he had all those kids and stuff and I thought that he was a hipocrite. I of do think he is telling the truth which he usually does but his life is not perfect and he has to take a good look at himself. I was told that he is Muslim and that is apart of the reason why he has so many kids but there really isn't any excuse not to be married to one of those chicks. Anyway a little birdie also told me that Beyonces song Me, Myself, and I was about him. I don't know that to be exactly true but the lyrics does fit the situation.

Anonymous

said...

I DOUBT THAT ME, MYSELF, AND I WAS ABOUT MOS DEF BECAUSE BEYONCE DOESN'T WRITE HER SONGS.

Anonymous

said...

poster 5:06, no one here is stupid to think nee actually wrote that. anyone can write anyone's name in a post. get your own damn identity and git lost. as for mos def being a muslim, and using that as his excuse for having kids--we have an overpopulation problem in this world M.D., and if you're so fucking "conscious", stop adding to it.

Anonymous

I was in this blog long time ago and heard that Me, Myself and I was about Mos. They said that she really didn't know his past when they started dating and when she found out she(Matthew) was like no way. And maybe she didn't write the song; so what. She could easily told someone about the situation and they could've put it to words so. I DON'T DOUBT IT!

I've been a Mos fan for years, but the best thing to come out his mouth recently was the VIACOM diss, that was banned of course..lol

WHAT THE FUCK DOES HIM AND HIS GIRL AND HIS KIDS HAVE TO DO WITHTHIS SITUATION? YALL ARE SO IMMATURE OVER HERE.....I'M OUT. DEE, YOU SHOULD DELETE SOME OF THESE KIDDY ASS COMMENTS WHEN THEY COME UP! SERIOUSLY.

I think they are saying that he needs to get his shyt together before he tries to correct someone else's. He's speaking on responsibility and he's not even responsible. IF he wants teach and preach about responsiblity he can show responsibility by rectifing his problem. The pot can't call the kettle black is what I think the bloggers are saying.

yall are a mess.

Anonymous

I had the utmost respect for him until he recently told a judge that just because he's making movies doesn't mean his child support payments should be increased (ironic because he isn't paying all of his child(ren) support). He speaks the truth about rap but on the measure of responsibility, he falls short. I recently told a white guy at my job who *assumed* I liked it that I could be behind the misogynistic mentality and the way it holds an unflattering light up to Blacks.

Anonymous

said...

ummm bitches be on TI and he got like what 5 kids to...bitches fall back.

Anonymous

said...

his child support should definately go up because your children should be able to have everything you are capable of providing.

Anonymous

said...

Why do people have to be bitches because they don't support Mos having bunches-o-babies out of wedlock? Tip might have 5 babies but in the same breath he's not the "concious" one. We all basically agreed that he(Mos) is right but his ass definitely need to take a look at his own situation.

Anonymous

nobody is perfect, it is easy to ignore every message or lesson b/c the person making it has made mistakes. In that case we would go around ignoring everything we hear.

Anonymous

said...

Look, he has a good message. Despite his past, personal lifestyle, favorite color, shoe size, etc. (you get the point). Whenever something good is on here someone manages to try to kill it, even if it is meaninful or helpful to blacks. And that's a perfect example, and that's why it's still hard for us.

Anonymous

said...

^Agreed. For some reason we think people have to be perfect before they can lead. I applaud people like him who speak their minds. Yes, one should try and lead by example. But just because someone does things that we don't agree with, should we dismiss what they say even if it is truth and can help us. Mos Def was on point with his statements. Hate him or luv him the man made some valid points.

funny how dudes who owe child support always the most reflective
ha ha ha

Anonymous

i mean it's kind of important to lead by example. Say Paris Hilton began urging people to have safe sex. Everyone would be like 'bitch please'. I'm not saying he should be a martyr and shit but be the change you want to see.

Anonymous

^^^^^^^Basically....

I don't understand. What the hell is wrong with a vasectomy and freezing your sperm? Mos Def can defintely afford these procedures. Now we know that many women would love to have kids by a rich guy, but why do guys fall for this game/ploy?

I love Mos Def, he is talented and seemingly conscious. I am however having problems wiht him having all of these children.

C'mon men, there is nothing wrong with a vacestomy. Please stop having babies. It is unfair to children to have 6 or 7 1/2 brothers and sisters all over the planet.

Anonymous

said...

why do people always miss the message? just because the dude has child support means that he cant have an intelligent thought? wtf kind of logic is that

Anonymous

said...

I don't think anyone missed the message but we are also intelligent enough to scrutinize the messenger. We looking for enlightenment from rappers now?

Anonymous

said...

Ok this just explains to me that we might just start judging everybody right for their personal situation and not whats going on in the media!Lets do that!Hell no,you judging him like that, should judge ya ass too.

Anonymous

MosDef need to check his own shit.

What's so respectable about his conduct? He's making a conscious effort to engage in dangerous and irresponsible behavior.

Im Canadian, from toronto, and mos met that girl when he was in toronto while filming the movie with bruce willis. He het her on a saturday at a club and by wednesday they were married. Her name is alanna, she a mixed chick. and she is in Pharrel's drop it like its hot (the one in the cornrows).

There is also a rumor that she fucked pharrell on the set of hat video. That girl is a groupie. She has a son for Saukrates ( a toronto rapper) who she abondened to become a groupie she takes care of him now. I know that she was fucking a couple of nba players, she aint even finish high school, became a stripper. And i know people who know people; at the time she married mos def an nba player was leasing a jeep liberty for her. Alanna was a well known hoe in toronto who lived free off of rich dudes.ie. ballers, rappers.

I mean i love mos def since his rawkus days why did he have to go out like that? i bet that bitch aint even know his previous work, shit she a dumb paper chasin ho.

Anonymous

said...

ok. First off I want to agree with Dee. I think Mos Def is sexy.

I'm definitely feeling what he has to say, BUT using the word 'nigga' is just as bad as the guys calling themselves Big Sam and Lil Bo. Just my 2 cent. Basically it seems he has a problem with some guys being called 'Sam-Bo' because of it's racial history, but he seems to have no problem using the work nigga.
