Christina at TRL...

Christina Milian made an appearance on TRL on April 3rd. I really want to be a fan of her music, I even like her song "Say I", but I'm still not really feeling her as an artist. I just don't know what it is. Maybe she should have just been an actress or even a model (she's a beautiful girl), but musically she's just...ummm...there?? She doesn't seem to have a real place in the music industry, she's kinda unnecessary. Hopefully with her upcoming album she'll prove me wrong. Though it may seem otherwise, I actually want her album to be a success.

Random Observation: Those pants from the side look like "MOM" jeans.

She's getting to damn crazy w/ her clothes. That is not cute. And that hair? Is she trying to look like Jello back in her days? But I do like her new song.

It's because she is average. She's too common and nothing stands out about her. Her voice is okay, her dancing is okay, her style is okay, she's just too safe. The least she could have done was to change her hair color back so she would stand out in that way. I don't know.

Anonymous

She's a cute girl but Anon 8:55 is right. There's nothing about her that really stands out. Maybe she just hasn't been marketed correctly...

LMAOOO @ MOM JEANS!!! Personally I can't stand "Say I", it sound like she got cat scratch fever but wuteva... she does have a pretty face and a bangin body but ur right maybe she needs Rihanna's publicist.

Anonymous

said...

I don't really think Rihanna is all that great either...They are both on the same level to me...Yeah they can hold a note but that’s about it for me...Christina is obviously pretty but, I don't really think that if she changed her hair back dark would really make her stand out...But those MOM jeans are just wrong!!!…

I don't care for Rihanna either, but at least she has that Caribbean "island spice" factor going on. Christina could work a "Latina" angle, but that may not do her much good either. J. Lo already has that angle on lock. Honestly, besides the song that's currently out, I don't even know what she sings.

Anonymous

I was anon 8:55. I only said the hair comment because I couldn't think of anything else to say to help her out. There's no hope for her...and I agree with the whole Rihanna carribbean factor, I was going to mention her and how they are on the same level but Rihanna has that slight difference but I didn't feel like typing it. Honestly, I put her in the same category as Olivia...Christina just doesn't have her backing.

No she doesn't stand out. But no one does. Everyone has the same tanned white girl look. Slightly brownish skin, long long weave (that is brownish or blondish), throw on some tight jeans with some boots or some heels and there you go.

Some one really needs to come and change the game for the females. This is beyond tired.

lol lol lol mom jeans though you crazy dee anyway they do look like the jeans on the comercial though but i do like christina i just don't like that outfit she is wearing

^^^I agree with anon 10:27. There is hardly any variety out there as far as female R&B singers. Most of the girls getting publicity are Beyonce Jrs. Those who are making good music, but don't fit the physical mold are largely underrated and/or ignored--or maybe just not given as much press. But then again, I can't picture Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, or Mary J. Blige pimping themselves on TRL.

I don't know why everybody wants that blonde ass hair. Be different please!

Anonymous

The comments are so true, the music indiustry is not how it use to be. Now it is hair weave, too much make-up, and tight tight or almost no clothing. I can say that Alicia Keys is probaly the only artist i know that is very natural her hair everthing.

Anonymous

said...

^^^ I agree...But I don't have a problem with people wearing the elaborate clothing and the fake hair...my biggest issue is the reasoning behind it. Do it because it is truly your style, not because of everyone else. But on the flipside of females copying each other...we rarely ever do this with males. Some males on the comeup try and bite Usher's style (and Ginuwine's...but that's another topic) but we don't feed into it as much...as if we let it slide. But then again...many of the males don't go so far as to copy the physical image either...

I wish people would stop saying it's because she dosent get enough publicity thats soooooooo not true.Christina millan has been getting alot of publicity these past years and within these past months more and more of it.When she first came out she was doing pop with am to p.m,then dip it low it was r&b now she wants to be gangsta?? you wanna keep it gangsta but yet you sing the hook to disneys kim possible?? nope nope Im not buying it!!!!

The only reason christinia millan is still famous and here today is because of her looks. She's a preety girl and that is what has gotten her so far.But when it comes to talent there is none she sucks. In my eyes she does fit in a category right along with ciara, ashanti and rihanna because neither of them can sing if there lives depended on it and have only gotten so far because of the way they look.I totally agree that the industry needs a breath of fresh air.But how can it get a breath of fresh air when ppl are supporting this shit??? DROP THE MIC BITCHES.WALK AWAY... DROP THE MIC!

Anonymous

^^^Love you...I agree about the the consumer bit. A lot of people blame societal issues on the magazines, hate what's out right now, etc...and yet fail to realize that the record companies will not put out what does not sell. That's a key aspect in this weird and viscous cycle.

Anonymous

I agree with the majority, everyone looks the same. It is not about hating, people should stop throwing that word around and find the true meaning of hate. Yes, we all agree she is beautiful but she looks like everyone else. She has lost her roots trying to run in the hip hop game. I suggest she put her spanish skills to work and try reggeaton or simply stick to acting and nickolodeon.

Anonymous

She looks like " Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!" for the Brady Bunch.

Alicia keys wears weaves also , depending on her hairstyle! Get over the "weaves" people it's style. These celebs have to keep their look hot and fresh and yes that includes WEAVES. Christina can weave ahorse in her hair and she still can't sing!

Anonymous

said...

^I agree. We get so caught up about people wearing weaves. *shrugs shoulders* So what? As long as the weave is tight, and the style looks good, I say wear it with pride. For most celebs, it allows them to have versatility with how they style their hair. Now it's when your shit looks suspect that I have a prob.
I just wish Christina would go back to the darker color, that would really help her stand out.

Anonymous

said...

Christina looks cute and her music is aight...She don't have that "it" factor though. Maybe she should stick to acting.

And please stop comparing folks to Beyonce....nobody in the game is on her level. Not saying she's the greatest, but she's the only one out there that's the ultimate performer.

Anonymous

True.^^^^ Say what you want about Miss Knowles, but she is a damn good performer. She may not be able to hold a conversation though.

I'll take what little talent she got because right now she got all of us discussing her....

Anonymous

ciara an ashanti both had hit albums even though they may not have the best voices an rihanna music is different an a little bit better than christina music christina is pretty but her songs are just ok

Anonymous

"We get so caught up about people wearing weaves....For most celebs, it allows them to have versatility with how they style their hair."

Yeah, but my problem is, it's not about versatility. I don't mind weaves at all when they're having fun and switching up the styles. But they get the same dang weave over and over, trying to fool us into thinking they all have long, blonde, "white girl" hair. Come on now!

Get over it! She is beautiful. Her style is on point (see whats happening in fashion for a reference) not your usual ghetto girl look that is clear. I don't listen to her music and don't ever plan on it but the fact still remains is that all that shit is subjective and it is for the industry. I love the exagerrated hair also. Look it's for the business that she is in and no matter what yall think she will make money off this album and have more in her pocket than me SO I CAN'T HATE!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous

Exactly! If the mindframe behind it was style then that is one thing. But come on folks...be for real. We can all tell that when you come out at with a more Black or ethnic athestic (yeah..ya'll girl Beyonce, go back and check the pics, JLo also) and then slowly progress to looking like a tanned white girl, something else is behind that and it ani't style. I would hope that we are all not blinded enough to buy into the hype and think that everyone is getting rail thin, and drastically changing their look to be versatile. We all know that the "look" in Hollywood is white. Quite trippin.

ATTENTION EVERYONE!! I so agree with everyone that the industry is flooded with these same old Black-blonde-Barbie-look-a-likes/Can't sing-to-save-my-life chicks and something needs to change.

WELL here is an idea...STOP SLEEPING ON F-A-N-T-A-S-I-A!!!

Fantasia is the best female vocalist out today...period. Yet she is getting no support from her own people. What is up? You say you want someone who looks different, well she is a beautiful black sister with natural hair and a natural look with no plastic surgery. She can sing anything from rock to soul to R&B. She has that "it" factor.

What more do you need? Her debut is Double Platinum and got nominated for 4 Grammy's but people are still sleeping on her because she doesn't look like a black Barbie. All I'm saying is if we want real talent stop supporting these wack artists(i.e.-Ciara, Ashanti, Rihanna, Teirra Marie, Christina M., etc.) and show Fantasia, India Arie, Lil Mo, Faith evans--some love! Support real artist who sing real music!

*Steps off SOAPBOX*

Liza, the people you named first (Ashanti, Rihanna, Teirra Marie, Christina M.) may not have talent, but they are pretty girls. Most consumers are so superficial that they care about looks more than talent. THe other artists you named, India Arie., Lil Mo, Faith, happen to not be as cute. It's sad but it's just the way it is. And then there are the people who have the looks and talent (Beyonce) but can't make a song with a bit of substance if their lives depended on it.

Anonymous

I agree with that anon 11:35pm, but blacks buy records too. I know this goes way beyond this topic--but why are most black people afraid or not willing to support singers that most likely look just like them?

I'm just amazed that mediocre talent like Alcia Keys(I personally think she can't sing AT ALL) gets help up like she is the second coming, but Fantasia, India Arie and Lil Mo can sing her ass into the ground yet they get slept on. But then we sit here and complain how music is wack now and artists look alike, but hey don't support the ones with actual talent.

I definetly realize it goes deeper than these artists--it's the mind frame of the black youth today that gives them this warped since of what is beauty is. I guess when these kids see their favorite rapper in a video with white/latin/mixed girls it makes it hard for them to appreciate an artist who looks like them.

On the beauty issue, that's a deeper level that goes beyond the recording studio and into young girls' closets and make-up kits.
But you all already knew that. That's a big portion of it, but there are some other things that weren't mentioned that I think are important too.

I can understand the last few perspectives...but aside from the whole pretty thing: age is a factor. To even start in the POP game they want 16-22, which knocks out Faith and Lil Mo. As far as Fantasia, I do enjoy her voice, but I know MANY people who don't and think it's annoying. Personally, I preferred Miss London from that AI year.

I love Miss Arie, but I also love to dance, but she doesn't do dance music. Even further, as far as the pop stars looking alike, and although they have talent, there's also a trend with "neo-soul" artists dressing similar. It's all about packaging and creating an image, to play it safe. On a side note, maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought that majority of the people who buy the soul "type" of records were black. In my opinion, that's a big reason why they aren't popular.

I'm not trying to take away from the fact that they are slept on...it's just that it's more than beauty. Some people don't like the style of music that people with great voices and powerful lyrics sing. I think Alicia Keys did well because she brought something in that hasn't been done in a minute...a piano. And on a more shallow note, she had braids to go with that piano. It varies for each artist. The voice alone does not cut it for a pop artist.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely think there is something missing. What I am saying is that on both ends, to be a true POP star that appeals to many...with all the money that they make, a lot should be expected of them on both ends. Lyrics with substance that they write that does NOT just talk about heterosexual relationships. An excellent performer (and for me personally, I'd appreciate it if they could dance). Their own style (sounds like a dumb requirement, however, you will find that most people with major labels tend to dress the way that most people dress in their genre). People who try to defy "the rules" end up conforming in a different way.

But anyway...I have come to the point where I try not to analyze it anymore and just say that people should listen to and watch whatever makes you feel good.

i know ya'll be like, well Ciara can't sang or whatever. true, but that lil girl can dance her ass off and she writes hot songs and that is important. like this other chick said, dance is important. JLo can't sing but she can dance her ass off and has hot songs. Beyonce can dance and has hot songs. Janet can't sing but makes hot music and can def dance her ass off. this industry is very visual. being pretty (even though all those chicks are cuties) is important 2 for the sex symbol status but don't mean shit. the people want to SEE u do sumthin besides stand around like Keyshia Cole or MJB lookin like she bout to fall or Mariah no rhthym ass( MJB & Mariah sang they asses off though). white girls buy the chicks who got the hottest videos and got dance in 'em. now why do you think Ciara, Beyonce, JLo and Janet sell so good. little girls want to be them. like who you like but it don't matter @ the end of the day. whoever is doing the hottest moves or has a spectacular knockout vioce, hot songs and production and likablity, will sell. please, dance is no longer a gimmick. it stopped being a gimmick after michael.
and CM. SMH. she...u can't keep changing ur mind on ur image, people will lose interest. and that Say I song gets on my damn nerves.

Whoever said the bloggers are hating... I haven't read any negative comments about CM's looks! No one doubts her beauty, she just can't make it no matter what she does! I know the truth hurts! Her single doesn't even get radio play; they only show the video because she looks really pretty. And that's sad because I bet Nick Cannon is laughing his ass off! She could've been a co-host on his show or something. She's got that bubbly personality.

Take in from Paris she sold her ass in a porn video for fame...cut to the chase and give the people what they really want...you on your knees blowing some loser for fame and money!!! Isn't that what it's really all about?

The reason why you got a record contract in th first place...and even though your records don't sell, you've still mysteriously have a record deal!!! Care to tell us why?

SHE DOESN'T CARE, SO YES AS SAD AS IT IS SHE RATHER BE PRETTY THAN TALENTED. STOP GETTING YOUR KNICKERS IN SUCH A BUNCH OVER THIS. YOU ALL ARE NOT IN HER SHOES OR HER MUSIC PRODUCERS OR HER RECORD LABEL NOR IF YOU AIN'T BUYING HER MUSIC WHY SUCH THE UPROAR. okay this is so funny to me and i agree only with the people that are keeping it real. i thank God so much for being the person that i am, and for giving me all the opportunties that i have. i consider myself beautiful and talented and smart. i've been natural for over 4 yrs now and to me my hair is the shit but with all that said i don't care if CM is selling sex or is not talented. or if Beyonce has weave or her hair is bleached blonde. I don't care if these girls have no use for the music industry. i think everyone is different and for me to get on here and blast this chick would be so insane on my part simply b/c i don't think that what shes doing is a crime. i think the crime being committed is with you anonymous posters who feel that insecure with yourselfs that you have to be so vicious to this chick (yes i know you have the right to your opinions) but tell me honestly what are you doing to change the situation? getting on here and ragging her. she don't care. really how many organizations are you apart of that supports young girls that you claim this is affecting? how many pro-girl groups do you have? how many little girls in "the hood" is it that you help out and are a positive example for? if the answer is none than you have to be honest with yourselfs and see that the bigger problem is that little insecure feeling you have within yourselfs and it's not about the youth at all. because if your not apart of the solution guess what? you are apart of the problem. black women are so diverse. lets love one another but love ourselfs first. it works really.

Glad to see you morons are now admitting that this girl is just selling booty to whoever's buying!!! The problem for Christina Milian (one that she does care about) is that the only ones buying her ass are the Hollywood execs, producers, directors, agents and anybody else looking for a starlet to fuck the shit out of!!!

That's prostitution if you haven't noticed. Hell, I wouldn't turn down a movie role or a record deal if it was given to me either...all I'm saying is, if you're gonna be selling your ass, there is a time date on it...People get old, remember. And this one's got another ten years or less stamped on her ass!!!

So while this chick has the opportunity in the lime light, she may as well spend the money to learn how to act, sing, dance and become a real musician...and a true talent, instead of just a talent in the bedroom!!! Cause when her looks fade and the execs and directors start spending their booty call money on younger and younger girls who haven't been used up yet, all of you Christina Milian defenders will have moved on too...to the next young hoe who'll be getting exploited for her looks and great blow jobs!!!

But for those of us who are real music lovers, we'll be here to support her (Christina) if she ever does manage to learn how to sing, or dance, or act, etc.!!! All I'm saying is, have a real career to fall back on, when the casting couch is pulled out from under your back...and the knee pads out from under your knees...And trust me...they will be!!!

Now, be a good girl and swallow that cum in your mouth...your next booty call is just a movie offer and another record deal away!!!

Warning: I love to blah blah blah, so work with me, people.

Okay...for some reason this whole "show your face" issue keeps coming up in reference to why people choose to be anonymous. Does it really matter? I mean, either way, people are still shielded by a computer screen...but I guess it does make it less confusing when people use their names. Anyway, although I can sympathize with most, I think those who are frustrated with the image out in the industry have made their points not because they are insecure, but rather because they are tired of dumb sh*t. I think the bigger issue that some of us are getting at is a constant pattern of representation of minorities (including females) in this industry. I stated in one of my posts (anon apr.6 8:17) that it's a deeper issue (one in which obviously wouldn't be solved with simply getting rid of phonies, but ya know...) And yeah it's the record companies...but the patterns are still definitely worth noting. You may argue that what a "celebrity" does shouldn't affect our personal lives, but there's another part to it...the part that makes us proud when we see people like Halle and Denzel win awards for the first time. It's part of the culture. It isn't as much of a problem when the numbers are balanced, when we see a variety of popular females who come from all backgrounds and tell their stories. It's just frustrating for some, with our history as females, as blacks, as latinas, as asians etc. when there is only one "type" that "speaks" to/for all of us. And I know I'm taking this far from CM and her "mom" jeans...but the very first comment (which I made) about her not standing out partly comes from this idea of there needing to be more of a variety.

After reviewing these blogs, it seems like every one ties every female to Beyonce. And not only that, people seem afraid to say something negative about her. Just like every other entertainer, she has people who like her, and are y'all ready for this one?!!!,she has people who don't like her! Get over it, her shit stinks like every one else's. She's not at the top of every one's list and that's okay.

Yes I agree, the hair color is tired and we need more artists that are not okay with being white washed (Beyonce). I liked her once but her and her mother become whiter and whiter every time I see them. She should focus more on public speaking and how to not contradict herself. "Nasty put some clothes on" remember that song? And who's always half ass naked these days? When you have kids growing up believing and practicing the positives that one of their favorite groups or artists sings about, and then all of a sudden you start to see them slowly but surely make a 360, you lose a little respect in them. And that applies to all. That's why appreciate artist who've kept their innocence, i.e., the Ciaras, Rhiannas, AALIYAHS!!!! Aaliyah was the perfect example in showing how to always remain true to yourself and what you stand for.

Anonymous

said...

^Ciara and Rihanna just came out, they'll change give them time and Aaliyah died so she can't change. Your point is stupid

Anonymous

said...

Actually your point is stupid saying that Aaliyah died so she can't change. That was ignorant and cold. Aaliyah was entertaining for years and when she WAS here, she never changed. And she had the opportunity to be an entertainer way longer than some who are here now who have already changed. So maybe you are one of the Beyonce groupies who's close minded. Let's better ourselves instead of bringing the next down.

I agree, that was a really ignorant comment and to call someone's point stupid just because she didn't agree was idiotic. Aaliyah was in it from childhood to adulthood and she never took her clothes off as she got older. And she never tried to change her image according to whoever she was dating. And most importantly she kept it black. No blonde hair coloring at all, she was true to herself and that's what young kids and the older ignorant ones should be focused on today. Who cares what's on the TV, maintain your own identity as long as your happy with yourself.

Okay AAliyah wore contacts and had fake hair what's the point that you are trying to make. Second of all may God rest her soul but according to MJBlige Baby Girl was going the wrong path. So just because a person puts up a phasise in this industry for us to make money doesn't mean like they are that way off the camera. Who knows what the heck Aaliyah was doing when she wasn't on camera. I just seen some pictures of her and Jay-Z all lovely dovey before she started going out with Dame. Now to some that shit is just fowl but my point is who are we to judge these people. I don't know their personal relationship with God. I don't know what they are like when I don't see them. People please get over it!! Just because a person has blonde hair, what? Just because a person is all natural what? Plus for whom ever stated that these girls Ciara and Rhianna are perserving their innocence is crazy. Please think about some of the shit you say before you post it.

I guess that I'm a Beyonce groupie because I think she is talented and pretty. I don't care what she is wearing and what she looks like. Her voice is the bomb 1st and God blessed her with good looks, so I can't hate on her for being pretty.

Mmmm...She would be perfect as the star of the "Superhead" movie. I'm mean, she's already a video hoe in her own videos!

"Okay AAliyah wore contacts and had fake hair"

Like oh my God, that is really sexual and explicit. SARCASM!

Ok anon7:35, I think that 2x2 was referring to anon12:14.
I think if you read it properly she didn't say anything about being sexual or explicit what she said was
"And she never tried to change her image according to whoever she was dating. And most importantly she kept it black. No blonde hair coloring at all, she was true to herself"
So if I'm not mistaking and 2x2 please respond if I'm mistaking but I think that you meant who judges the level of fakeness? Contacts are fake just like weaves and blonde hair. Aaliyah wore contacts and weave, Beyonce wears blonde weaves. What's the difference? So your sarcastic bid was a little premature.

WHY DO YALL HAVE TO WRITE THOSE LONG ASS BLOGS??? NO ONE LIKES TO READ ALL THAT MESS.....IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS.

Calm down anon 3:19, who really cares. The person was really trying to get at the fact that she didn't go around half naked just because she got older. She stayed true to herself that way, she didn't come out revealing and she never took it to that point as she matured. Let's not bring each other down.

Christine or whatever the hell her name is SUCKS big time if she want to continue to be classified as famous then maybe she should do another movie like "Love Don't Cost a Thing" even though it wasn't all that. I honestly believe that if Aaliyah was still alive then half of these no good singers would be out just like if Tupac or Biggie was alive. No she is no Beyonce (who is extremely overrated who can't even sing better that Mariah Carey)but hey thats life and I beleve the R7B industry went extremely dead when they let Ashanti and Olivia manly asses out

Awww she's cute. And much more youthful looking than most of her peers. We know you don't aim to be like Beyonce, you were here way before her by the way. Please no debates, respect opinions.
